My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Proverbs 3: 1-4
Maybe this past week has left us wondering if we could just go back to 2013. This past week, we have suffered losses of a building, of loved ones, our peace of mind is shaken with loved ones who are fighting illness's that are long standing and newly discovered. I thought I would share a story of this week that will lift your heart and remind us of God's love and faithfulness.
I received a call on Saturday morning from a member of Mt Carmel whose dog had been lost since Thursday, she lives near my home on the north side of I-70. She said she knew it was a long shot, but wondered if I had seen her brown Shitsu anywhere near our home. I stated that I had not, but I would see if we could assist in looking for her dog and that we would also pray that her beloved pet would be safe. I sent out an email to nearby neighbors and said a prayer and went back to my sermon prep, then headed to the New Market congregational meeting. With the demands of preparing for Sunday worship, then conducting Sunday worship the little dog had slipped my mind, but not God's. I finally remembered to check in with the family on Tuesday morning to see how things were going. Her dad answered the phone and said; "Well your prayers worked!" and he related this story. He was searching for the dog on Monday night with a flashlight
near the fence line of I-70, he was about to give up hope, he was tired and stopped for a rest, when he felt something brushing against his leg, you guessed it, their little Shitzu.
This is a reminder to us that prayer does work, that all things are possible with God, that if we are a faithful and loving people and keep the word of God next to our heart, we will never be abandoned or forsaken. Take heart good people and keep on praying, God is listening.
