Prayer Devotion August 6, 2014

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Luke 12: 6-7

When I got in my car this morning I was burdened with the knowledge that there were a lot of things I needed to accomplish today. Along with the regular ministry to-do list was a long procrastination list of items that I have neglected at our home during my time at Wesley. I thought to myself does the grind of daily life ever stop? Am I just a cog in a very big wheel and someday the wheel will consume me and spit me out in pieces. I turned the radio on for company as I left my driveway and the Bob Seger song; “Feel Like a Number” came on the radio, (google it if you have time, it is worth it)    I can remember listening to this song as I drove to my first job at K-mart, where I really did feel like a number some of the time. This reminded me of many other numerous jobs where I felt my God given talents were being wasted, and that I would never realize the fullness in which God designed me to dwell. If you feel like this, I will tell you, you are not alone. I will also tell you, to continue your life in constant prayer, to pray that God will open the necessary doors so that you can fulfill the glory that He has designed in you to further His Kingdom.  I will tell you from experience to also be patient, God works in His own time and this is perfectly the correct time, when we force our own agenda we tend to get ahead of God. Listen to God’s voice and when you hear it speaking be ready to act, because there is a God laid plan for everyone, you are special and you are known by the Creator who hung the stars in the heavens, the one who knows when a sparrow falls and who has a destination and a desire for you and your life. Be patient and minister to those who are in your presence now, keep your eyes on the horizon while being the light, no matter where you are at the moment, and God’s light will shine on you and His plan for you will be in His perfect timing.
