Prayer Devotion March 4 2015

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."  Matthew 6:10

I have learned my lesson; I should never try to be a weather forecaster!

Last Thursday I told the Mt. Carmel folks that it was going to warm up and be nice on Sunday.  Wow, was I wrong.  What a yucky day.  The weather, and those poor suckers who try to predict it for a living, remind us often that we are not in control and we are not as smart as we think we are.  The weather humbles us and challenges us to make Icees out of snow piles.  As we press into the lines of the Lord's Prayer we realize that Jesus invites us to come humbly before the Lord.  We begin in prayer by praising our God who reigns over heaven and earth.  Then we invite God to bring God's kingdom into our lives.  We acknowledge that while we don't always understand God’s will, that in the end, God's will is the best for us.  Praying, "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done", is inviting God to do what only God can imagine and accomplish. Rather than going right into our list of needs, Jesus invites us to acknowledge that God may have some surprise blessings and challenges in store for us that we don't even know to pray about.

This week, as you continue to deal with the rearrangements that snow and weather cause, seek to allow the changes to humble you rather than frustrate you.  Your schedule may not be as critical as you thought.  Invite the Lord to reveal his will for the day and for you.
