Angels All Around
15 When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked. 16 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”17 And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6: 15-17
Do you ever go to bed at night tired of the troubles that the day has wrought and the only thing you desire is to slumber into the promise of a new day? When you wake up you may feel refreshed and ready to take on the troubles of the day and that go “get’em” attitude may last, well, until the time your feet hit the floor, and then you remember the troubles surrounding you and you may feel much like Elisha’s servant filled with terror and fear and that you are all alone. Elisha’s calm counterbalanced his servants panic, Elisha saw what no one else did, Elisha saw not with his eyes but with his faith. He knew that no matter what God was with him that God would sustain him and deliver him from peril. The old saying is that when you are up to your butt in alligators it is hard to remember that your main objective was to drain the swamp. Do we wake up every morning and only see the alligators? Has our anxiety of the new day overtaken the absolute wonder of what God has given us to enjoy each day? Instead of looking at your situations with human eyes, let’s try seeing things from God’s perspective, that you are surrounded by His love, surrounded by His angels and what could be more reassuring than that.
Take heart brothers and sisters, God has got your back, be at peace and open your eyes.
