Position: Praise and Worship Leader, Part Time

Employer: Mt Carmel UMC in Frederick MD is a small but vibrant church that is looking for a Praise and Worship leader for its 11am Contemporary Worship service.

What We’re Looking For: The leader will select and lead music, as well as direct a small group of vocalists and instrumentalists, for Sunday morning worship at 11am. The Praise and Worship leader should preferably be proficient in vocals as well as either guitar or keyboard. We are interested in diversifying our current music selection, by incorporating gospel, folk, contemporary versions of hymns, as well as contemporary music. We are open to having our musical repertoire widened based on the unique gifts and style of our next Praise and Worship Leader.

Hours: The position requires 4-5 hours per week. Sunday mornings 10:00am rehearsal and 11:00am worship service are mandatory. We typically also have a weekly evening rehearsal with the Praise Team (currently on Tuesdays) although this schedule is negotiable. Attendance at quarterly Worship Committee planning meetings.

Compensation: We are open to either of the following arrangements:

Salaried with annual 4-6 weeks paid time off; OR

Weekly Stipend (estimated $100– $140/week depending on rehearsal schedule, etc)

Essential Functions:

• Collaborate with the pastor in selecting music for worship services. Plan music selections and communicate with the band in a timely fashion.

• Invite, mentor, and equip praise team members to maximize their musical giftedness and worship presence. Invite their feedback and participation.

• Prepare for Praise Team rehearsals so that rehearsal is a spiritual and uplifting opportunity to connect with God and each other.

• Work with other leaders to ensure continuity in worship on weeks you are away.

• Set up the slides for Sunday mornings and provide primary oversight of the A/V equipment in the Great Hall.

• Ensure the A/V Closet remains organized. Coordinate with the Trustees or reach out for tech support when improvements need to be made.

• Create the contemporary worship slides 4-6 times per year when the Church Administrator is out of the office. (Role typically filled by Church Administrator)
